The Phoenix Aquatics programme is divided into squads based on ability, performance level and commitment. The aim at every level is to help members improve and reach the highest possible level.

Junior Phoenix

The “Learning to Train” stage where youngsters build on basic skills across all four strokes, develop starts & turns, learn lane discipline, how to use a pace clock and establish good ground rules of swim training. Swimmers compete at Level 3 and work towards qualifying for Level 2.

Level 3 – Level 2

“Training to Train” level for swimmers competing at Level 3 and above. Members learn more technical aspects of strokes, starts and turns and begin to develop endurance capacity. The aim is to give members all-round skills to progress to Level 2 and Auckland Age Group/Junior Championship level.

Level 2 – Level 1 / Jnr Champs

“Training to Compete” — the focus is on more advanced stroke techniques and developing various energy systems. Swimmers compete at Club Race Days, Level 2 and Auckland Age Group/Junior Championship level. More advanced members aim to qualify for National Age Group Championships (NAGS).

“Training to Win” — swimmers should have high levels of skill & technique across all strokes, starts and turns. They learn goal setting, race strategies and pacing. A complementary dryland programme is integral to their development. Squad members are expected to support Club Race Days.

Swimmers pursue a high-level performance strategy geared to success at National and International level. Standards are measured against world-level swimming and the programme aims to provide relevant international experience on an individual basis. Additional sessions may be available through Swimming NZ for athletes at FINA B standard or higher.

A one-off, non-refundable fee payable by all new members upon joining Phoenix Aquatics. This contributes towards your club uniform needs and includes club cap, t-shirt and shorts.

Annual Affiliate Membership

$50/yr

For swimmers living overseas who wish to maintain a connection with the club. Affiliate Members remain eligible to represent Phoenix Aquatics at approved competitions and to rejoin squad training on return. Terms reviewed by the committee.

$400

Discount applies for additional siblings. Swimmers joining after the first six months pay $200 through until April 1st. Registration fees are non-refundable. Paid separately through Fastlane — information on how to do this will be provided by Phoenix Admin.
